Environmental StewardshipTo make the world a better place for our children and grandchildren, hotel environmental committees investigate ways to reduce the environmental impact from choosing eco-friendly hotel soaps and cleaning detergents to installing energy efficient lighting, upgrading heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and improving waste management practices. Cultural PartnershipsFrom Vancouver to St. John's, our hotels relentlessly focus on guest needs and strive to develop lasting relationships with them. We take time to listen and know our guests. We acknowledge and celebrate our ethnic diversity; we support various community arts and cultural activities and sponsor our sports teams. While most of our partnerships are linked to local organizations, from time to time, we also connect with regional or national organizations that have links to our communities. As a host for athletes or musical festivals or special events, sponsor of amateur sports or student groups, support for local fund raising efforts, we are involved with dozens of organizations that our partners and associates personally care about. Regional Scholarship programsA great hotel offers more than just a good sleep and amenitities. It offers an experience - new discoveries, stories and friendships. Through regional scholarship programs, our hotels provide financial support to individuals pursuing careers in hotel or hospitality programs. Career opportunities exist at most levels and operational departments including Hotel Managers, Front Desk personnel, Food & Beverage Managers, Servers, Banquet Associates, Sales & Marketing Managers, Chefs and Housekeeping Associates. Charitable Giving ProgramsOur Friends in Need community relations program began in 1999 as a local initiative at one of our hotels in Atlantic Canada, the Delta Fredericton. By offering a reduced rate during the holiday season, a time of year when occupancy was traditionally at its lowest, and marketing it to visiting families and friends, the hotel raised funs for a local cause and created awareness and goodwill in the community. In 2000, SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts launched the program on a national basis in all Canadian hotels. Now each December, each hotel offer holiday travellers discounted room rates with $10-$12 from each room sold donated to community charities. Local shelters, soup kitchens, youth support groups and other organizations have now benefited from over $590,000 raised in the past six years. |
